Alan Sullivan

Biography

Alan Sullivan KC is a highly experienced equity and commercial barrister at both appellate and trial levels.  Alan joined the bar in 1978 having first served as Associate to Sir Anthony Mason and then working as a solicitor for a short time.  He was appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 1990.  He specialises in Appellate, Commercial Law, Equity, Insurance, Medical and Professional Negligence, Sports Law, Intellectual Property and Public Law.

Alan has a passion for sport and sports integrity and is a long-time member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.  He has a long association with rugby league having served as the Chairman of the New South Wales and Australian Rugby League Judiciary and represented the Australian Rugby League Commission in legal matters over a long period of time.  He is now one of the Commissioners on the Commission.  Alan is also currently Senior Commissioner, Cricket Australia Code of Conduct and President of the Football Federation of Australia Appeals Committee.  He was formerly Deputy Chairman of the Adjudicatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee.

In 2017 Alan was awarded the Contribution to Sport and Sports Law Award by the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association for substantial lifetime achievement to the development, integrity and professionalism of sport and the sports law industry.
